- It is the 102nd town to be formed in the province of Malaga after separating from Ronda in 2014.
Monuments and places of interest in Montecorto
- Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen: The first temple of worship in the village was built at the beginning of the 16th century in the current Plaza Emita, which was demolished after several reforms in the 50s of the 20th century. Between 1958 and 1959 a new church was built in Plaza Federico García Lorca but it disappeared in 1963 due to heavy rains affecting the foundations of the building. After several difficult attempts, the church was built where it currently stands. It was inaugurated on July 16, 2002, the day of the patron saint of the town: La Virgen del Carmen.
