El Borge is located 45km from Malaga capital with a population of 930 inhabitants. The municipal term has a dimension of almost 24km square.
Origin of the name El Borge
The name of El Borge comes from the Arabic where “Al-Borg” means “The Tower” or “The Bastion“.

The inhabitants are called “alborgeño or alborgeña“.
Monuments and places of interest in El Borge
- Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario: The temple was built in 1505 in the Gothic-Mudejar style with elements of the Baroque style added later in the 18th century.
- The Crypt
- Bird Park
- Hostal Posada El Bandolero: The birthplace where Luis Muñoz García was born on September 2, 1837, the famous bandit known as “El Bizco de El Borge”. El Bizco was one of the most famous bandits of the 19th century. The house was a mill, although today it has become a Hotel-Restaurant and in turn a museum about this Andalusian outlaw.
