Cuevas de San Marcos is located 82km from Malaga capital with a population of 3.648 inhabitants. The municipal term has a dimension of almost 37Km square.
Origin of the name of San Marcos
It gets its name from the large number of natural caves in the area. Although during the Middle Ages the towns of Cuevas de San Marcos and Cuevas Bajas were called Cuevas de Belda.

- Church of San Marcos Evangelista: The temple dates from the 17th century with an important subsequent reform at the hands of Juan de la Reina who converted the architecture into a late baroque and neoclassical style. On the outside we highlight a high facade with a semi-pointed arch. The bell tower was built in the 18th century made up of three bodies, highlighting the masonry and brick for its construction. Inside is the figure of the Miraculous, the Virgin of the Rosary, Virgin of Sorrows, and the image of Our Father Jesus Nazareno.
