Humilladero is located 67km from Malaga capital with a population of 3.286 inhabitants. The municipal term has a dimension of almost 34,66km square.
The origin of the name Humilladero
The infant Don Fernando de Antequera met with Per Afán de Ribera who brought the sword of Fernando III el Santo from Seville. Don Fernandó knelt, that is, he humbled himself before the sword, and kissed the sword. He promised not to sheathe the sword until he reconquered the lands of Antequera. In the place where he received the sword, he erected a cross at the entrance to the town, the Cruz del Humilladero.
