FERIA DE MALAGA 2023
From August 12 to 19, the Malaga Fair is held. It is the largest event in the province. The commemoration of the incorporation of the city of Malaga into the Crown of Castile is celebrated on August 19, 1487, presenting the Virgen de la Victoria as the patron saint of Malaga. The fair is held in two places: By day in the city center (12pm to 6pm) and the “night fair” in the fairgrounds on the outskirts of the city. THE CATHEDRAL
The most prominent and symbolic building in Malaga is the Cathedral. Built on an old site of the old mosque, the works began in the year 1528 and in the year 1782 the works finished, leaving the building unfinished, in this way the Cathedral is popularly nicknamed “La Manquita” because the construction never finished . THE ALCAZABA FORTRESS
Located in the lower part of Mount Gibralfaro. It is a palace-fortification from the Muslim era built between 1057 and 1063 during the Taifa period. It is one of the most important Arab military buildings in Al-Andalus. The enclosure has an area of 15,000 square meters full of patios, Muslim architecture, walls, arches, fountains and beautiful views over the bay and the city of Malaga.
ROMAN THEATER
Located in the historic center at the foot of the Alcazaba. In Roman times, the city of Malaga was called “Malaca” and was considered an economically important city. In the 1st century BC, the port of Malaga was expanded and a theater was built at the foot of Mount Gibralfaro to take advantage of the inclination. In 2010, the theater interpretation center was inaugurated to better understand the theater and the Roman era in Malaga. Admission is free.
THE LIGHTHOUSE
La Farola is a symbol of the city, built in 1817 with stones that come from Monte de Gibralfaro. It is the only lighthouse with a female name on the peninsula. La Farola has suffered severe damage on two occasions, during the 1884 earthquake and during the Spanish Civil War. A true symbol that illuminates the Malaga sea at night so that the ships arrive at port safely.

BRIDGE OF THE GERMANS
Over the river there is a peculiar bridge called the bridge of the Germans or Santo Domingo. The bridge was donated and built by the German Empire in 1909. The bridge was built after a flood of the Guadalmedina river that caused the destruction of several bridges. It was a response from the German Empire, since on December 16, 1900 a German frigate SMS Gneisenau sank off the coast of Malaga, and many people from Malaga jumped into the sea to rescue the German sailors, where twelve people from Malaga lost their lives .

CERVANTES THEATER
The Cervantes Theater was built between 1869 and 1870 when the Príncipe Alfonso Theater was destroyed by fire. The theater has around 1,200 seats divided between four floors. The main room is covered with an oil canvas on the ceiling measuring 19m x 16.5m painted by Bernardo Ferrándiz called Allegory of the History, Industry and Commerce of Malaga. MALAGA MUSEUM
Located in the Palacio de la Aduana, it is the largest museum in Malaga, with around 15,000 archaeological pieces and 2,000 works in the fine arts section. The museum is ideal if visitors want to learn about the history of Malaga and its province. During the visit you will learn about the importance that Malaga had thousands of years ago and the history of the civilizations that passed through these lands. MAIN SQUARE
Located next to Malaga Airport. It is an open-air shopping center, it has hundreds of stores and restaurants created in 2002 and since then it has become a great reference for shopping in Malaga. In 2019, the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet was inaugurated where you can find great discounts of up to 60% on big brands such as Prada, Karl Lagerfeld, Armani, Diesel, Guess and many more. THE PORT CHAPEL
Located in the port of Malaga. The chapel was erected as an oratory in 1531 with an image of Our Lady of the Sea, but it was destroyed by the siege of the Flemish army and was rebuilt in 1649. In 1719 it was moved stone by stone, and it was converted into a chapel to say mass to the seafarers, since the profession of the sea is deeply religious due to the risks that sailors run at sea.
POMPIDOU CENTER MALAGA
Located in the port of Malaga. The museum was inaugurated in 2015, above the entrance you can see a colored cube created by the artist Daniel Buren and named “Incubé” . THE ENGLISH CEMETERY
Located on Avenida Pries. The origin of the cemetery begins in the 19th century when the immigration of British settlers increased, since they professed another religion, the deceased could not be buried in Catholic sacred ground. Not having a place, they buried the deceased on the beach during the night, such acts caused surprises and unsanitary conditions. In the year 1830 a piece of land was assigned to bury those who were not Catholic. The cemetery has great architectural value and curious stories. In the place there are several famous people such as: Jorge Guillén, Gerald Brenan, Aarne Haapakoski, Majorie Grice-Hutchinson and the castaways of the Gneisenau frigate. official website
OLD GUARD HOUSE
An emblematic place located in the main Alameda founded by José de Guardia in the year 1840. In the tavern you can taste the best typical wines of Malaga together with fresh seafood dishes. HOSTAL PATIO 19 FACADE
Located at Calle Mariblanca 19. A hostel located just outside the center and historic quarter, the street has dozens of wrought iron balconies that give that Malaga feeling and tradition. At number 19 you will find a decorated and colorful facade of the Patio 19 hostel that has dozens of flamenco dresses hanging. GUADALHORCE NATURAL PARK
Located on the outskirts of Malaga, 5 minutes from the airport. The mouth of the Guadalhorce river is a protected natural area with an area of 67 hectares. In this area you will find ideal routes to observe nature. It is a place where a lot of fauna and flora came together, specifically, it is a place where many migratory birds rest and nest. It is the small lung of Malaga center and at the same time a great place for bird watching. In summer there is very little shade.
MUNICIPAL HERITAGE MUSEUM
Located next to the tunnel entrance to the citadel in the La Coracha area. The museum has a surface area of 1,900m² that is divided into a permanent exhibition of 1,100m² and a temporary one of 800m². The permanent exhibition is divided into three rooms that display works from the 15th century to the 20th century, which in turn is divided into areas such as “Málaga Ciudad Castellana”, “Masters of the XIX” and “Picasso”. MARKET OF ATARAZANAS
Located in Calle Atarazanas. The current market was built between 1876 and 1879 on an old site where there was a Nasrid naval workshop from the 14th century called “Atarazana”. Look at the doorway of the market, as it is an original construction of the building that was built as a workshop in the Nasrid period. The back of the market has a stained glass window worth visiting with symbolism and representations of the city of Malaga. Inside there are dozens of stalls selling fresh produce and it also has restaurants with tapas and portions.
PEDRO LUIS ALONSO GARDEN
Located next to the Malaga City Hall on Calle Guillén Sotelo. The gardens were designed in 1945 by the architect Fernando Guerrero-Strachan Rosado, and were named in honor of the first mayor of Malaga after the Spanish Civil War, Pedro Luis Alonso. It is a garden with French and Arabic architectural influences. Inside this garden is the statue of the biznaguero (1963, Jaime Fernández Pimentel), which honors the Málaga tradition of selling biznagas by street vendors.
EPISCOPAL PALACE OF MALAGA
Located in the Plaza del Obispo next to the Cathedral. Built in 1762, it has become one of the most emblematic buildings of Malaga architecture. Its architecture stands out for its main façade with its impressive three-section portico, housing an image of the Virgen de las Angustias. In 1931 the building suffered a fire during the Spanish Civil War, therefore, it underwent reconstruction in the 1940s. Since 1990 the building has housed the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art in Malaga.
VISIT THE VICTORIA BEER BREWERY

MUSEO CARMEN THYSSEN
Located on Calle Compañía 10 in the Villalón Palace built in the 16th century. The palace that houses the museum Carmen Thyssen brings together one of the most important collections of Spanish and Andalusian painting. The museum houses around 300 works highlighting great masters such as Francisco de Zurbarán, Mariano Fortuny, Martín Rico Ortega, Julio Romero de Torres and Guillermo Gómez Gil. See official page.
THE SALAMANCA MARKET
Located on Calle Salamanca in the neighborhood of El Molinillo. A neo-Mudéjar style building built between 1922 and 1925 by Daniel Rubio Sánchez from Ciudad Real. Both covers are identical on both sides covered by a metal structure. Currently it is a market where you can buy fresh products. The Salamanca market appeared in the 1966 film Lost Command, starring Alain Deloin, Anthony Quinn and Claudia Cardinale.

MILITARY HISTORY MUSEUM
Located and the Plaza de San Francisco. A journey through the history of the Spanish Armed Forces. The museum was inaugurated in December 2021 and houses the most complete collection of Spanish army uniforms from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. JORGE RANDO MUSEUM
Located at Calle Cruz del Molinillo 12. The Jorge Rando museum opened its doors in 2014 and is the first expressionist museum in Spain where the painter houses his works and exhibits temporary exhibitions of national and international artists. The museum’s mission is to be the Living Room of Art, admission and guided tours are free. The museum has 10 rooms where you can enjoy the works of the Malaga-born painter and sculptor Jorge Rando.
